DRL is the parent institution. Sentinel is its shared intelligence and reasoning architecture. The Applied Systems Division develops Shield, Cite, and Steward as distinct products using governed Sentinel capabilities.
Origins
Serious research can begin outside established institutions.
Founded by Phill Elliott, DRL began with a practical question: can disciplined reasoning be designed into systems people can actually use? The Dutchtown name honors the founder’s roots and a commitment to building capability and opportunity in places institutions too often overlook.
Principles
The system must be able to say the evidence is insufficient.
Intellectual humility, human responsibility, evidentiary discipline, and learning from disagreement guide how DRL research becomes working systems.
